Melissa King is a 43 year old, outgoing and enthusiastic wife, mom and teacher.  She has dedicated herself to her husband Rich and children Adriana and Zachary, and has touched the lives of hundreds of former students at several Erie County schools. These schools include St. Aloysius Gonzaga, KIPP Sankofa Charter, Queen of Heaven, and most recently, Our Lady of Pompeii. Melissa is also known as the "Queen" of sweets, as she has worked with her husband Rich, to build their small business King Condrell's Candy & Ice Cream in Kenmore, NY for over 20 years.

Melissa is suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a disease in which tissue deep in the lungs becomes thick and stiff, or scarred, over time. As the lung tissue thickens, the lungs can't properly move oxygen into the bloodstream. This illness has forced her to begin using oxygen 24/7 and to stop working as a teacher and in the family business. As a result of this disease Melissa will need a double lung transplant.
